The Kal-Q-Lated Risk/The Risk

This band originally hailed from Featherston, a small town in Wairarapa nestled beneath the Rimutakas/Tararua Ranges, around 1967 to 1974. As you can see, they underwent several line-up changes.

They had become well known in the Wellington region before moving to Wellington city at the end of the sixties and having a string of hits for HMV/EMI.

They made the national music award TV program "The Loxene Golden Disc Awards" finals for three consecutive years, 1970 - I'll Be Home, 1971 - Angelina, and 1972 - Lazy River.

The Kal-Q-Lated Risk were another band EMI had chosen to ignore in its back-issue releases until late 2014. A few of the hits had been available on the Loxene Golden Disc CD re-issues and various other compilations, but now the album "Holding Our Own" is available for purchase on iTunes and is on Spotify. Happily, though a "lossy" format, the mastering of this online release is much better than a typical new CD release (they haven't severely "volume maximised" it which is now sadly normal practice).

A compilation has also been released online, though not on CD, in Febuary 2015. While there is a big overlap with "Holding Our Own" it does fill a few gaps. Can we have a lossless release now please - i.e, CD?

Back in 2000 obscure German label "Rock in Beat" released a CD with a vinyl transfer of "Holding Our Own" coupled with the self titled and only LP from an Upper Hutt band of the same era, The Dedikation. Quality of this release is not good.
